Actually, the OP doesn't tell us what he is running for an operating system (unless I am missing it, and I know one of you will point that out for me, hehe). Someone else is running XP Home on a dual core machine.

Concerning XP Home FYI...

Cannot join a domain
Does not support NTFS or Print permissions (supports only simple file sharing)
Doesn't support dynamic disks
Doesn't support EFS (eek! lawlz)
Supports only one processor (XP Pro only supports two)
Doesn't support IIS
Doesn't support Remote Desktop
Doesn't support RIS

Anything else?

I will accept responsibility for this confusion. I should not have assumed that it is common knowledge that "!=" means "not equal to". In other words, I said that dual core is not the same as dual cpu, but expressed myself poorly.

So, you buy xeon's and quadro's, but you actually don't know anything about computers... why do you buy stuff that was made not even for home users but for servers/ cad users and other professionals.

Or super-high-tech games like Crysis, that use the additional cores for AI, physics and advanced graphics - HDR, AA and the rest of technical crap.

That's what Core2Quad/Duo cpu's are for, Xeon's are the same cpu's for the professional market.

Well, i use CAD. so theres one reason. But i think it also doubles really good for a gaming pc. My least favorite part is the single video card. But who has another 1400 to get another one?!

If I had the money to toss at the system I would, as is, I will settle for the beast I have now. I am not here to judge you on your system, just help you with the issues you are having.

Well, I'm done building my PC now. GW runs just fine, sticks at 85 FPS constantly ( my monitor won't go higher ) with my C2Q 6600.

No crashes yet. Thank god

Perhaps swap it out for a Tuniq Tower, although you need a very large case (Thermaltake Armour Super Tower size at least) to fit the thing in, and then it only just about squeezes in.

well, i did manage to turn my geforce fx5500 into a quadro fx500/fx600. not too sure about this, but there seems to be very little difference (if any) between the two types.

aside for having access to some professional applications, is the quadro actually BETTER than an equivalent geforce in every day applications?

now, how the hell do i turn it back into a geforce...

Except for the name there's not a difference in performance.

I copied this from somewhere:
Quote:
Workstation users generally have high expectations of their systems: It's a tool, not a toy; they need to work with it. Their main job is to design, create scenes or demonstrate their work. Time is precious, so they don't accept crashes, baffling bugs or delays in workflow.
Quadro's, Opteron's Xeon's, theyre all the same as GeForce, Amd64 and Core2. But the main difference is these can have a higher level of stress Usually these are beasts for overclocking, the companies use their best cores for these.

Looks interesting, but I just have a crappy miditower I'll get myself some silence mats and actually close the case once I'm done tidying the cables and stuff.

Ok. I've just hard my first lockup. After about 45 minutes of playing, my screen just went black and I couldn't do anything anymore. Strangely enough my music from WinAmp kept on playing.

Guess I'll try ForceCore if this happens again...
